Veggie Garden Update

My vegetable garden has been growing like crazy.

The tomatoes in the raised bed are really doing well. The indeterminate cherry tomato plants have grown taller than my spiral stakes.

The determinate tomatoes I have (beefsteak, normal and plum) are shorten but still have some nice looking green tomatoes. It'll be a while yet but hopefully they'll go red before it gets too cold.

The peas are now done. They'd given me enough pea pods to eat a few fresh raw ones every day. I've now taken them out and planted some cucumbers.

We've ate lettuce a bunch over the last month or so. The basil in the garden has a little Japanese beetle problem. Those bugs eat a lot of leaves. I've continued to take the bugs off of my plants and dispose of the bugs in soapy water. The celery is growing well. The peppers have not yet flowered. I don't think I'll be planting those next year.

I've got a few zucchinis coming. The plants have had lots of flowers but they've mostly been male flowers. I think maybe the zucchini plants aren't getting enough sun, shaded by the tomatoes and I didn't give them enough room. As well, I see a few little striped cucumber beetles.

The spinach never amounted to anything. I think it got too hot before I was able to plant the spinach. It went to seed right away. I've now pulled it out and have planted some lettuce.

The green beans never sprouted. I think the seeds were bad. After sewing them twice and not amounting to anything, I've now planted sunflower seeds.

We've decided to add another bed for next year. My husband will start the build as soon as we can find some cedar. I hear there's a shortage because of all the summer quarantine renovations. It'll be beside the current one and probably 8' x 6'. My current plan is to grow tomatoes and zucchini in that new one (it should get more sun than the original bed) and then other veggies, strawberries, raspberries and black raspberries in the original bed.
