Veggies 2020

Other than the constant improvements to existing beds, for 2020 we are starting to grow vegetables. I know... not perennials... but they're plants and plants are cool.

We've previously grown tomatoes on our deck in varying degrees of success. Last year we bought two raised deck planters and grew a few herbs, two strawberry plants and a pepper. It wasn't very productive but the kids liked it.

This year, especially after we started self-isolating, I decided that we should start growing vegetables. I thought a raised bed would be nice and really liked the U-shaped design. My husband built it for me. It is 10 feet x 8 feet overall, with a 2 x 4 cut out with a gate.

We ordered 4.5 cubic yards of garden dirt (with manure and other good stuff) and used most of it for the bed.

Then my husband added the chicken wire to keep out the rabbits and is in the progress of adding a small electric fence to (hopefully) prevent squirrel attacks. Squirrels are evil. They don't want the food. They just like to wreck it.

I haven't planted anything yet but here is my current plan:
